Friends of Marsden Park

Friends of Marsden Park – Yorkshire is a community volunteer group working together to care for our village park. While we are an independent group we are also part of Marsden Community Trust and they support us with managing our finances.

The park is supported by Kirklees Council Grounds Maintenance Team who carry out basic annual maintenance which is limited to cutting back shrubs and grass cutting. Friends of Marsden Park have taken on the task of maintaining the upkeep of the park and there are a group of volunteers who attend regular ‘Clean and Green’ sessions from Spring to Autumn – these maintenance sessions can include planting, weeding, pruning, re-seeding, painting and litter-picking in the park. These sessions are open to anyone to come along and volunteer and we can always find a task in the park to suit all abilities. Please contact us if you’d like to volunteer with us!
The group also gets involved with local village events e.g. Jazz Festival and Cuckoo Day to raise funds for the park – we usually hold a tombola, a raffle or a treasure hunt. Additionally, we also hold events in the park and in 2025 were part of the Kirklees-wide WOVEN event with a very successful ‘Flower Bomb’ event in the park – lots of local groups and residents helped to decorate the park with handmade material and wool flowers.
We also work with local groups such as the Scouts and the two schools in the village and are open to working with other interested groups. Please contact us if you are a local group and would like to be involved.
